12 Steps to Controlling Your Diabetes

Sunday, November 29th, 2009
Marci Sloane, Ms, Rd, Ld/n, Cde asked:

24 million Americans have diabetes and 1/3 of them don’t even know it!  Diabetes can lead to many complications – since it is a disease of the vessels:  heart disease, kidney disease, blindness, nerve damage and amputation are some of the problems that can result from uncontrolled diabetes.  The good news is that diabetes can be managed by you!  With proper education, you have the power to avoid or reduce the severity of these complications.

You can make a life-changing difference by following these guidelines:

Limit carbohydrates (starch, fruit, milk, sweets) at each meal or snack.

Consume approximately 30-60 grams of total carbohydrate per meal (depending on your calories for the day and how your glucose is running). Consume approximately 15-30 grams of total carbohydrate per snack combined with a lean protein and/or unsaturated fat such as a yogurt with nuts or a fruit with low-fat cheese. Evenly distribute carbohydrates throughout the day to avoid fluctuations in blood sugar and to achieve a level blood sugar. Consume slow-digesting foods or food combinations to assist you in achieving a more level blood glucose.  Consume the following foods in combination:

a.  High fiber carbohydrates (30-50 grams a day) like brown rice, whole grain breads or cereals, grains such as kasha, barley or millet.

b.  Lean protein such as fish, shellfish, poultry, lean meat and low-fat cheese.

c.  Unsaturated fat such as nuts, nut butters, avocado, oils. Test your blood sugar before meals and 2 hours from the start of the meal to determine if your body can handle the amount of carbohydrates you’ve eaten.  If not, decrease the amount of carbohydrates or you may need a medication adjustment. For example: Test at 8:00 am before beginning breakfast and then again at 10:00 am. Look for the following results when testing blood sugar:

a.    Before meals blood sugar should be 90-130 mg/dL (American Diabetes Association - ADA guidelines*) or 80-110 (American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists – AACE guidelines**)

b.    After 2 hours blood sugar should be under 180 mg/dL * or under 140 mg/dL**.

c.    Blood sugar can expect to rise about 30-50 points from a meal. Eat every 3-4 hours so your blood sugar doesn’t drop or fluctuate too much.  This may determine whether a snack is necessary or not.  Eating more frequently prevents over-eating at the next meal or snack and keeps your metabolism higher so you burn more calories! Wait 2 hours between meals and snacks so the blood sugar has a chance to come down before you send it back up with your food consumption. Have your doctor do a blood test to determine your 3-month blood sugar average.  HbA1c also known as glycohemoglobin or hemoglobin A1c shows the progress you are making every few months with controlling your diabetes.  Look for a number of 7% which is equivalent to154 mg/dL * or 6.5% which is equivalent to 140 mg/dL **, for best control.  Fructosamine is a similar test that averages two weeks worth of blood sugar results. Remember to exercise at least 5 days a week for 30 – 40 minutes.  This includes walking, bicycling, strength training, etc.  Exercise helps insulin work more efficiently to lower your blood sugar.

Be sure to meet with a team of diabetes experts.  They will provide you with the knowledge you need to control your blood sugar.  There may need to be adjustments with times of exercise, medications or food choices for best glucose control.

There are no secrets when managing diabetes.  You have all the tools you need to find out how food, exercise, medications and even stress affects your glucose readings.  In time, you will learn how to fine tune and better manage your disease.  The HbA1c will tell you what range your blood sugar is in.  Your glucose monitor will provide you with critical information so you can find out how daily living affects your blood sugar.  Don’t allow the diabetes to rule your life when you are in charge!

Top 5 Reasons To Try Acai Burn Weight Loss Supplement

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Bernie Alexander asked:

Do you want to drop a few pounds safely but are not sure whether Acai Burn is right for you? Don’t worry, I am going to let you in on five of the top reasons this product is so popular right now and then let you decide for yourself!

1. Acai Burn is backed by Western research. The average weight loss was 14.99 and 12.54 pounds with key ingredients (Garcinia cambogia extract, chromium polyniconate and Gymnema sylvestre extract) in AcaiBurn vs. just 3.06 and 3.53 pounds with a placebo in two 8-week clinical studies. Both study groups dieted and exercised.

That means the key ingredients in AcaiBurn were found to help cause up to 450% MORE WEIGHT LOSS than dieting and exercising alone.

2. Acai Burn has the amazing antioxidant power of the Acai Berry

Dr. Nicholas Perricone rated the Acai Berry as the #1 superfood in the world on the popular daytime talk show. Not only is Acai exploding with flavor, it’s also a rich source of antioxidants. Studies have shown it is one of the most nutritious and powerful foods in the world.

Used on their own, each one of the potent formulas listed above is incredibly powerful. But combine them together and they’re pure dynamite - which is why Acai Burn is quickly gaining a reputation of what could be the most powerful fat fighting formula in the entire world.

3. Acai Burn is different from the other weight-loss products around. The sad truth is the diet industry has been cheating honest, sincere Americans out of their money for years. That’s why despite the fact our country now has more gyms, potions, pills and prescription drugs than ever before, we are becoming a fatter and fatter nation every year.

4. Acai Burn does not make outlandish weight loss claims.

Truth be told, you know it’s impossible for anyone to make a guarantee or promise of the exact amount of weight YOU WILL LOSE. The manufacturers of Acai Burn never have, never will… Nobody can ever promise you the amount of weight you will lose as a result of any weight loss plan - and if they do - you should run like a mad person. However having said that - you should also be aware of the potential this product has to melt away enormous amounts of excess weight!

5. You can try it BEFORE you buy it. That’s right, you can get a FREE bottle of the product, try it and see how it works for you. Then if you are not completely satisfied you have 60 days to return the remainder of the product and get your money back! It doesn’t get much easier than that!

Now, be aware that no weight loss supplement will work if you don’t control the amount of food you eat and do some form of regular exercise, but if you are able to do these things, a slimmer body is yours for the taking!

All the Steps (welcome to our Family Forest)

Thursday, November 26th, 2009
Jayna Haney asked:

A good sense of humor is vital to finding happiness in your stepfamily life. Why? Because with all the complications, you’ll need some ways to make it okay. How? By trying to step away from it mentally and act like a third party just looking on. Laughter makes our problems more manageable. See it for the craziness that it sometimes is.

We went through a tough period at the beginning of our stepfamily life. We started watching Seinfeld every night, just so we could laugh at something. It doesn’t matter what you and your spouse laugh about. Just laugh together. With daily practice at developing the broadest, widest ability to see the strange, weird and funny, you can handle anything.

Family life of all kinds is an adventure! And nowhere does it get more complicated or amusing than when the family tree begins to sprout new branches. I was a divorced parent with two children. When I remarried, my husband also had two children, so we became a family of 6 with two ex-spouses — but not for long. They both got married the next year. And now, the family tree has grown by leaps and bounds.

Our children have an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and yes, four parents per kid. No longer a family tree, we have a family forest.

Our sense of humor helps us to see many things in a positive way. Our four kids decided during a winter holiday car trip to sing our own version of the 12 days of Christmas. We sang about 12 fun cousins, 11 grandparents, 10 aunts and uncles down to three beautiful daughters, two crazy parents, and ONE Wonderful Son! (You get the idea!) Or the time when the children laughed about taking all the last names of each of their parents, and how that would sound with all four last names.

Our sweet children have to think before they answer how many siblings they each have… five! But on the other hand, they like feeling close even to the step-siblings of their step-siblings. Because, gee, they figure we are all somehow related, aren’t we?

It was at soccer game when their new step-cousin (on their Dad’s side) was trying to introduce his grandma to all the family. First, he introduced his new step-cousin (my daughter), then he introduced my step-daughter as his step-step cousin, and me as his step-aunt, turning to us and saying, “You are related to me now, aren’t you?”

Or the time my daughter’s step-sister on her dad’s side said to me, “You’re my step-mom now, right?” It made sense to her. If my daughter was her step-sister, I should be her step-mom. Right?

Most kids have one or two parents at a soccer game. Our kids have 3 or 4. Throw in all siblings, several grandparents, a dog, a babysitter, and any aunts, uncles or cousins that may come along.

But two years ago, it all changed again. My ex-husband and his wife had a new baby. How does the newborn fit in the mix? Just fine - not to worry… the family forest has room for everyone!

I have learned to enjoy the puzzled look on people’s faces when we start trying to explain all the different relationships. As one friend told us, “You guys need a tactician”. Yep, but it would help if he would tell that to my ex-husband, my two step-wives (the wife of my ex-husband, and the ex-wife of my husband), and step-husband (the husband of my husband’s ex-wife.) Got that?

8 Quick Fat Burning Tips

Thursday, November 26th, 2009
Ian Canaway asked:

The statistics are scary - latest research from the IHRSA/ASD Obesity/Weight Control Report shows that 63% of Americans are overweight, and frighteningly 31% are clinically obese. On the other side of the pond, in the UK, the stats are not too dissimilar. According to the British Department of Health 23% of Brits are obese - the highest of all European countries.

With this in mind, just take a moment to think about the health issues of being overweight or obese - we’re all aware of the dangers. Anyone for heart disease or diabetes?

If you are overweight or obese these are very real dangers that could cut your life short. That’s why it’s critical you start including some fat burning tips in your life.

So lets look to some solutions:

Here are 8 quick tips you can include into your daily life to help you burn a little more fat, and get back down to a healthier, safe weight.

1 - Eat a high fibre diet; go for multi/full grain breads instead of white bread. Eating full grain bread will provide your body with the fibre it needs to keep your digestive system functioning properly and your body running efficiently.

2 - Cut out red meat and eat more white meat. White meats such as fish, chicken and turkey are lower in fat content than red meats such as beef and pork. When you are trying to burn fat you need to make the switch from red to white meat.

3 - Slash your sugar consumption. If you take sugar with your tea or coffee, stop. If you eat high sugar foods, cut them out of your diet. High sugar foods cause a peak in insulin secretion leading to storage of glucose as fat.

4 - Don’t eat too much fatty foods. You do need some fat in your diet (the right fats), but you don’t want to go overboard. One gram of fat contains 9 calories, so you can easily see how a few grams of fat add up to a lot of calories. Try to avoid any foods that exceed a 30% fat composition.

5 - Stop eating 3 times a day. Instead eat 6 smaller meals spread evenly throughout the day. You eat smaller portion sizes and keep hunger at bay by eating more regularly. It’ll keep your metabolism running high and help stop you snacking on unhealthy foods.

6 - Cut out butter from your diet. Pick up a healthier margarine; you can choose from many healthier options, such as, lower cholesterol or lower fat margarines. If the choice is available to go for a healthier option, get it.

7 - Eat less salt. Salt will push up your cholesterol levels, which raises your risk of heart disease, which when combined with obesity is a potentially dangerous combination. Eat ‘low-salt’ alternatives instead.

8- Stop frying all your foods. Instead try to bake, boil or steam them. Frying food is possibly the most unhealthy method of preparing food. The other options are far healthier, require little or no fatty oil, and will really help you with your fat burning efforts.

A word of warning…

These tips and strategies for fat burning are not the ‘be-all-and-end-all’. There are a lot of other factors involved in achieving long term fat loss. A healthy diet/lifestyle is just one component. If you are really want to hit your fat burning goals, and get a fit, attractive body, you need a long term proven plan of action, incorporating a healthy diet, cardiovascular exercise and resistance training.

Forest Sustain Life

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009
Dr. Ashiq Hussain asked:

FOREST THE ULTIMATE SOURCE OF LIFE

It is a very true saying that god help those who help themselves. Though the ultimate result of all decisions is believed to rest with Almighty God. One may have a firm belief in God and go to the places of worship and pray religiously everyday, but still one has to work to achieve some thing in life. A firm belief in God and prayers, I believe, certainly has their value. A firm faith in God, the firm faith that He is listening to ones prayers and looking after ones interests can build ones confidence, but yet, this does not mean that one merely sits at home and think that all his wishes and dreams will automatically be transformed into reality. No, one has to make efforts for the same.            “Where there are tress there exists life” a well known quote to be remembered all the way by every one. Human beings and forests have always had a complex relationship. It will not be wrong to quote here that plants and trees (Forests) have played a key role to flourish life on this globe. Although the ocean was the original home of all life on Earth, forests, as they themselves evolved, quickly became home to a vast majority of land based creatures including early man. Concrete jungles, factories spewing smoke, crowded roads crammed with traffic - certainly, humankind have come a long way from its humble beginnings. Plants themselves have been around for over 450 million years, starting with simple forms of single - layers of cells. But today they are among the most complex of life systems and also the oldest and most successful. Imagine that the first plants stood upright about 420 million years before the first animals could. It is widely believed that early human species evolved in and around the African rainforests between four and six million years ago. Even today, our closest relatives, the great apes, live there. We have depended on forests as long as we have inhabited the planet - getting clean air to breathe, food and water from it, fuel, shade and shelter, and now we need it for economic gain as well.   Early humans were known to worship trees, and even today, in some parts of the world, forests are regarded as places of awe, with spirits attributed to be living there. The worship of forests, plants and animals, and appeasing of animal and tree spirits are still quite common in some cultures, and the forest is treated with the kind of respect reserved for divine objects.Yet we have been taking continuously from the forest to feed the ever - growing need for wood, and wood and non - wood products, to provide land for the burgeoning population for housing and cultivation.  If one will try to think that what ended the nomadic life of man and from where all the things needed for his settlement came from, the answer lies with forests. Still the modern man is also totally dependent on forests. The medicines, the paper, the clothes, the food, the furniture, and all sorts of luxuries are directly or indirectly related with forests.A forest is home to many types of plants, which are the food source for many types of animals, which are, in their turn, also sources of food for other animals. And, as these animals and plants die, they in turn become food sources for the plants that again become food sources for the animals. This circle of life, the linkages between all animals and all plants, is often referred to as "The web of life" - a reference to the common dependencies between all life in an ecosystem. It is incredibly difficult to sum up the importance of forests in a few words. Just think of how forests have affected your life today by just answering the following few questions. Have you had your breakfast? Read a newspaper? Switched on a light? Traveled to work in a bus or car? Signed a cheque? Made a shopping list? Got a parking ticket? Blown your nose into a tissue? All these and many more activities directly or indirectly involve forests. Some are easy to figure out - fruits, paper and wood from trees, and so on; others are more difficult - by-products that lead to the manufacture of other everyday items like medicines, detergents, etc. Looking at it beyond our narrow, human perspective, forests provide habitats to diverse animal species, and they also form the source of livelihood for many different human settlements as well as for governments. They offer watershed protection also known as a catchment basin, the region of land that drains into a specified body of water, such as a river, lake, sea, or ocean, timber and non-timber products, and various recreational options. They prevent soil erosion, help in maintaining the water cycle, check global warming by using carbon dioxide in photosynthesis. The bulk of the earth’s rainfall is received by mountains, thus forming the headwaters of the land’s water distribution channels. As a result, the mountain forests influence the quantity and quality of this precious freshwater resource. For example, forests are usually the best cover for safeguarding water quality from sediments and chemicals. Flow of water from Forest catachment areas is complex, making generalizations difficult. However, there is evidence to suggest that cloud forests and some older natural forests can increase net water flow. Cloud or "fog" forests are special kinds of forests that scrape out moisture from the clouds or fog. This water extraction function is in addition to the vertical precipitation received by these forests. Having relatively low water use, these forests add to the water supply of a catchments. In addition, forest cover can reduce the problem of flooding from many small, frequent storm events in headwater watersheds close to the forest area. Not only this Forests act as Earth’s air purifiers. Just as our lungs absorb carbon dioxide from the blood and infuse it with oxygen, green plants absorb carbon dioxide during photosynthesis and release oxygen into the atmosphere in return. This is why forests are often referred to as the Earth’s lungs. We all know about photosynthesis - the production of energy in the presence of light by plant containing chlorophyll for the subsistence of the organism. Carbon dioxide, the major greenhouse gas, is a major requirement of photosynthesis. This suits us just fine as it means forests form an effective sink for the carbon dioxide produced as a result of animal respiration, burning of fossil fuels, volcanoes and other natural and human-induced phenomenon. And if that is not all, a by-product of photosynthesis is oxygen. Thus, the forests are the Earth’s air purifiers, as they absorb the large amounts of carbon dioxide they from the atmosphere. However, these forests, the greatest ever wealth bestowed by the Almighty God to the human on earth, are being depleted at an alarming rates. The lungs of the planet are increasingly being likened to those of a compulsive smoker. Scientists, including the FAO, estimate that more than 50 per cent of the original forest cover has been lost since the beginning of the twentieth century, and what remains is disappearing at an alarming rate. Deforestation had been the major culprit in the disappearing forest cover. However, in a study published in Nature in late 2004, researchers say that the forest is disappearing faster than we think, as logging and accidental fires - which were assumed to have minimal impact, are not taken into account in standard calculations. But the present estimates available have calculated that the logging practices and wild fires destroy as much or perhaps more annually than deforestation and this affect more communities than earlier estimates.  Thus today, the ecosystem that gave us life is under severe threat. Early humans were hunter - gatherers, and later farmers, and because the population was small, the impact on the environment was minimal. But in the past couple of thousand years, the growing demands of an ever - increasing human population has halved the Earth’s original forest cover. Forests are the Earth’s largest and most productive ecosystem, and trees their most visible and important constituent. Humankind’s past is linked to the forest, and it is easy to see how its survival will map our future as well. It has been postulated that for ecological balance there should be at least 33% forest cover on earth and if this and the percentage of deforestation in modern times is kept in mind, the last day of life on this globe is not so far.   Thus to maintain the ecological balance and hence the possibility of  sustenance of life further, it should be the duty of me, you and hence of all of us not only to save the forest but plant more and more trees and popularize the slogan “Trees means food and Food means life” and the need of the hour to achieve this goal is that one has to develop a positive attitude towards things, have to work whole heartedly, sincerely and put in the best efforts into each and every little thing to save the forest and hence the mankind. Thus let us have a regret of our past deeds and think about the future. If we do all this, then life will become an unending merry song.

Who “Save the Forests” can be happy all life long.

Forestry and Global Warming: How Can Our Forests Effect Climate Change?

Saturday, November 21st, 2009
Mike Hirn asked:

The amount of land dedicated to forests, particularly old growth forests, could significantly reduce global warming. Forests are an important use of land in most countries, and in modern times they take on a new, environmental significance. Plant life scrubs carbon dioxide from the air. Carbon dioxide is a main cause of global warming and can be eliminated just by being in the vicinity of certain plants.

Trees are the best carbon dioxide scrubbers found in nature. Old growth trees are especially good at removing carbon dioxide from the air and storing it within their cells. For this reason, old growth trees need to be preserved. The lumber trade argues that the old growth trees can be easily replaced by new trees, but this is simply not the case. New trees do not possess the abilities that old trees have of preventing global warming by trapping carbon dioxide. Some proponents of cutting suggest that certain new trees are capable of trapping more greenhouse gases than the old trees. This is not true when you compare the new special trees to trees that have many decades of growth.

Several studies have been done to estimate the potential impact on global warming caused by deforestation of tropical rainforests. Loggers do not just take out mature trees for lumber. People who want to clear a place to live, work, or farm in the jungle do so by cutting and burning large portions of rainforest land.

Deforestation increases other greenhouse gases, including methane and nitrous oxide. Global warming is a foreseeable reality when the rainforest and other forests are destroyed.

Preventing global warming should first focus on cutting greenhouse gas emissions caused by the burning of fossil fuels. However, deforestation comes in a close second as a cause and should also be part of conservation efforts.

When people learn that forests are important in stopping global warming, they can help preserve them by refusing to use lumber that comes from old growth forests and rainforests. Laws have been proposed to curtail logging as a way to prevent global warming. Bans on clear-cutting, a practice that destroys acres upon acres of old growth trees, have also been suggested.

It is easy and tempting to continue to blame the deforestation problem on “those people” clearing land in the rainforests. The truth is that a tree in your neighborhood is as valuable as one in the rainforest when it comes to removing carbon dioxide. It is important to think and strategize on a global scale but it is important to also act on a local scale. We may well have more impact on the actions of those in our sphere of influence than those half a globe away. Look in your backyard, is there room for a few more trees? If so go plant some.

Blood Sugar and Burning Fat – Part 1

Saturday, November 21st, 2009
Axis Labs asked:

This is a subject not many worry about nor take the time to care about. This is very unfortunate as blood sugar plays a vital role in your weight gain or weight loss. Studies have reported that even in healthy people high blood sugar after meals can over time damage the body. Blood sugar effects everyone. It should concern you even if you are thin and healthy, and especially if you don’t get enough exercise or carry extra weight around your middle.

When you eat a big meal, especially one with a lot of starchy or sugary foods, the food makes its way through your stomach and intestines and then is converted into glucose, the main fuel for your muscles and even your brain. Boom! You now created instant energy. However, a big starchy meal can give the body more glucose than it needs. In fact, it can raise blood sugar levels twice as much as another, healthier meal would.

If you eat a big pile of french fries or something of that nature, your body has to deal with a serious flood of blood sugar. What happens now is your body reacts by pumping out too much insulin. May be even more insulin if you are overweight. The extra insulin will bring the blood sugar down way too far. It sticks around and does this for hours. Your body then can fall into a semi-starved state. This can cause your blood sugar to be even lower than it was before you ate the meal. Your body knows that your blood sugar is low so it reverses everything and spits out hormones that raise blood levels of sugars and fats. The really bad part about all of this is now your brain is sending signals that you are hungry. Whether you ate more calories than you even needed at lunch doesn’t matter. Your body is so low on sugar if thinks you need food. Now everything in front of you looks appetizing.

The best way to avoid all of this is just to start eating the right type of foods. Foods like white rice, white bread, potatoes, and sugary drinks seem to be the biggest cause of these type of reactions. You can keep your blood sugar at healthy levels by eating more wheat and oat carbohydrates. Those of you with a “spare tire” around your middle are most likely having problems controlling your blood sugar. This spare tire will fall off very fast if you learn to manage your blood sugar correctly.

There is a great deal of studies proving a direct link to many forms of cancer that our society experience and get diagnosed with everyday. That subject is going to be discussed in a “blood sugar and burning fat part 2”.

6 Burn Fat Fast Secrets For A Firm, Well-Toned, Celebrity-Style Beach Body

Friday, November 20th, 2009
Rika Susan asked:

How to burn fat fast seems to be one of the most frequently asked questions these days. Do you struggle with food and weight loss from the moment you open your eyes in the morning? Do you constantly scan advertisements for new diet books, weight loss pills and potions? From celebrities to ordinary Joe’s are jostling to get their hands on the latest fad. Somehow, each new product sounds just a tad more enticing and promising than the previous one, leading to a new stampede by a crowd of hopefuls. Do any of these burn fat fast fads work in the long run, or are they just lining the pockets of creative and innovative marketers? What are the six secrets that are really effective in the fat loss and muscle building race?

Secret 1: There Is No Quick Fat Fix

Sorry, folks. There really is no magical pound-melting potion on this earth. Not if you want a health body anyway, and most definitely not if you want a long-term solution. If you desire lasting good looks, or want to look after your man’s health, it will take some work and planning. There simply is no quick fix. Burn fat fast solutions don’t come in pill form.

Secret 2: Learning To Change Your Mind

The mistake many people make is to take on the weight loss challenge only on a physical level. Burning fat fast has as much to do with your psychological make-up as your physical weight. If you can harness the astounding powers of your mind, you will experience the fat loss success you crave. Step number one may be to find out if there is a behind-the-scenes reason why you hang onto your overweight image. There may be some kind of psychological pay-off. The extra weight may be a sort of safety buffer between you and the world out there.

Alternatively you may simply have conditioned yourself into believing that this is who you are. You may have been conditioned into making unhealthy food choices. Why not see the change as a new adventure? Why not make it fun to discover for yourself why one option is better than another? In the process you will also be teaching your kids not to stuff their faces mindlessly. Change your thinking and you will change your body.

Secret 3: Exercise Your Emotions

If your aim is to burn fat fast, it is vital to identify the times when you usually hit the fridge for emotional reasons. This can happen when you are bored, lonely, sad, happy, or excited. Don’t try to white-knuckle it. If you can manage to get an alternative plan of action into place ahead of time, you will be more likely to succeed. It is much better to replace an established habit with a new action when that craving hits, such as brushing your teeth, going for a walk, dancing to upbeat music, perhaps drinking a glass of water or vegetable juice, or calling a friend. If you can just get through those few minutes, the feeling is very likely to pass. Once you have done this a few times, it will become easier and you will begin to feel more in control and that much better about yourself. This in itself will help to lessen the cravings.

Secret 4: Motivation To Move Muscles

No one is talking about becoming a female body builder here. You probably don’t crave bulging muscles. The whole idea is to aim for extra weight you can put down when you’re done! Of course, a lean and toned look is always attractive and will probably help to improve your self-image. The main thing is to get your metabolism revved up in the right way. Working with weights is one part of it, but you also need a cardio component to get the burn-fat-fast effect.

One possibility is to use a treadmill or elliptical trainer to move into your target training zone in as short a period as possible. Then downgrade to a lower intensity and try to keep this up for around 20 minutes or so. Before you know it, this form of fat burning exercise will have your body showing amazing changes. Not only will you be developing a lean look while dropping pounds, but you will be less likely to pick up weight so easily.

Secret 5: Get A Lifestyle-Lift

Burn fat fast solutions have much more to do with the choices you make, than with a particular diet. You need to adopt a healthy lifestyle that is sustainable. What good is it to go on this or that diet for a month, or to drink a weight loss pill for a few weeks? What happens on the first day of the next month? You probably head straight back to all your old habits. Before you know it, the weight you have lost, plus a few extra pounds reappear like old friends.

Why not learn to make smarter food choices instead? Doing just a few things differently may give you the boost you need. If you do the math, small changes such as switching to low fat cooking and eating, or decreasing your sugar intake slightly all add up. With a bit of planning, you can be right on schedule to drop a 100 pounds in a year, without a strict diet. Why not do some internet research to find out where you can make changes that will not leave you feeling deprived?

Secret 6: Clean Your Cupboards

Yes, Dr. Phil has been saying it all along. If it ain’t there, it can’t attach itself to your hips. Burning fat fast requires cleaning up your environment. How about initiating a kitchen spring clean? It will probably break your heart to throw out all the ‘good’ stuff you have in the house, but just imagine it all packing onto your thighs in the form of ugly lumps of fat… Better chuck it out, than chugging it around on you.

The thing is, there are going to come times when you will be vulnerable to eating just for the sake of eating. It takes a while to replace old habits with new tactics. Doesn’t it make sense to make sure that the stuff that usually trips you up simply isn’t in the house in the first place? At the same time you will be teaching your kids to make healthier food choices.

To burn fat fast is often more of a challenge for women. Remember that every woman’s body composition is unique. If you can manage to love yourself and love your body, and stop being so fixated on diets, your life will take on a completely different color. Isn’t developing a healthy body image a great gift you can give your kids? You probably don’t even need scales and a body fat calculator to know if you need to firm up and drop some pounds. The way your clothes fit will tell you this quite clearly.

With a bit of homework and a handful of common sense you will find it easy to burn fat fast permanently and safely.

Wake Forest

Freddie Brister asked:

Wake Forest University (WFC) is a private university located in North Carolina. The school, which was founded in 1834 after the North Carolina Baptist State Convention, got its name from the area called Wake Forest where it was originally established. At first, the school was created to teach Baptist laymen and ministers. Nowadays, however, the main campus of this coeducation school is located at Winston Salem and the educational programs available are varied.

The athletic teams of Wake Forest were originally called the Fighting Baptists. This was due to the old connection of the school to the Baptist Convention. The name Demon Deacons, which the WFC teams are now using, was coined after a reporter who covered the match between the Fighting Baptists and Duke Blue Devils wrote that the Deacons (referring to the WFC team) “fought like Demons”. The support of the WFC students, alumni, and fans for their teams, particularly the basketball and football teams, remain solid all these years. And this is because of the program called Screamin’ Demons, wherein students who sign up for the program at the beginning of the athletic season pay about USD 15 for the entire season. Aside from having a free tie-dye shirt in spring and a football shirt in the autumn, the Screamin’ Demons get the finest seats during the games. Furthermore, the program participants also get to watch sports events for free for as long as they show their Screamin’ Demons card for the season. However, the above-mentioned privileges will be forfeited if the member of the program misses two games. Since it is quite difficult to get good seats at WFC basketball games, many fans just opt to join the program to be assured of good seats.

The school colors of Wake Forest are Old Gold and Black. Since 1895, the school has since used these colors even when their teams were still called the Fighting Baptists. The description of the colors of WFC, including its tiger logo, was seen first at the school’s literary magazine. The one who designed the original logo or symbol of WFC was John M Heck, according to a magazine article in 1895. The college logo was composed of an old gold and black WFC letters over a tiger’s head. However, historians claim that the colors and the logo of the school were actually associated or loosely based on the scriptures. Up until now, many are still debating as to the origins of the colors and the logo of the school.

But if Wake Forest’s symbol and colors are ripe with controversies, it’s a different story with the Demon Deacons mascot whose origin is very clear. In 1943, the first person who donned the school mascot was Jack Baldwin. According to him, he along with his fraternity brothers came up with the idea of dressing as a deacon - complete with a black umbrella, top hat and tails - and entering the football field while riding the North Carolina ram. This stunt, which was originally intended as a joke, became a Wake Forest tradition

Tips On The Best Fat Burning Foods

Thursday, November 19th, 2009
Tisha Diaz asked:

We all know that we “grow in stature” when we take in far more calories than we burn during the day. Taking in calories means eating. What if we could eat the best fat burning foods that actually help us lose weight?

That would be wonderful, wouldn’t it?

Those best fat burning foods do exist, and you can eat them to your heart’s delight.

Our bodies use energies, i.e., calories, when we digest food. Fat burning foods are those food items that contain fewer calories than what it takes for our bodies to digest them.

That means, when you eat those fat burning foods, you gain the calories that the food contains, your body burns more calories than those in the food to digest the food, so you end up with having used more calories than you took in.

If you only eat the best fat burning foods that I’ve listed below, you will probably develop some kind of mineral or vitamin deficiency.

So, beware, even though you could lose weight by eating only fat burning foods, you could be doing your body a ton of harm in the process.

They key is to do it in moderation.

Eat the best fat burning foods instead of that big burger, pack of fries, or oily pizza.

Here is a list of ten fat burning foods that you can eat.

Lettuce, grapefruit, spinach, broccoli, turnips, eggplant, lemons, pumpkin, mushrooms, and blackberries.

Now, even though it would have been wonderful if we could eat ourselves thin, it is probably not going to happen.

Our bodies just do not work that way. The body is designed to store excess energy, which we must burn off if we want to lose weight.

Let me tell you girl, you gotta do a little bit of exercise as well. Go for daily walks, it does wonders for burning calories.
